加拿大的森林
1994年，我生活在加拿大东部的蒙特利尔市(Montreal)，那时曾利用业余时间，受雇把加拿大林业公司的一批英文资料翻译成日本语，赚点辛苦小钱，养家糊口，故而对加拿大林业状况略知一二。
科学早已探明，森林是所有陆生动物生命的基础。加拿大地广人稀，全国998万平方公里土地，90%以上的土地都是未开垦的原始大森林。若按绝对森林拥有量、人均拥有量和木材出口量来计算，加拿大都是世界第一。加拿大政府颁布有严格的森林管理法，不经许可擅自伐树是犯罪行为。政府每年都划出一小块森林为当年的伐木区，这“一小块”的木材，就足够全世界使用一年。每砍伐一棵树木，除正常纳税之外，林业公司还要向政府缴纳一笔特别伐木税。政府用这笔税款的一部分，或赞助各大学林学系的科学研究，或租、买飞机给全国的森林保育使用。每年入冬伐木季节之后，政府都会将该年的伐木区封禁，百年之内不准任何人再来伐木。次年春暖花开时，则雇佣大批临时工，在林学专家的技术指导下前往种树。除前一年的伐木区外，森林大火等自然灾害也会使森林大面积受损，那些区域也属于种树区。由于每年种树面积比伐树面积还要大，加拿大的森林始终郁郁葱葱，一片茂盛，而且越砍越多，越砍越好，万世不竭。这种资源被称之为可再生性自然资源。
加拿大政府已经向全世界发出呼吁：河流黄河化的国家和人民，为了我们这个星球的生态平衡，为了人类的生存环境，为了自己和子孙后代的健康、幸福，请保护好你们的森林。需要用木材时，请考虑接受加拿大伸出的援手。
